chronic UTI

Question
Why is it that a Vet will not give you a refill on antibiotics for a cat with chronic UTI's.  As I am very aware of the signs and symptoms, it seems in my cat's best interest if I treat her immediately.  Each time I take her in they insist on a battery of tests, to the tune of approximately $500.00, to confirm what I have told them.
This last time I didn't have $500.00 and my cat had a siezure, she was put down.
This just doesn't seem right to me.
Any insight?

Answer
no its not right, if your cat or anyones cat has a ongoing condition or is prone to a certain type of infection, that should be in their chart and you should be given the meds you need without a docs visit. you are right! time to find a new vet.

i have a cat that is prone to upper respiratory infection..he gets one a year and all my vet requires is that he see him once a year , preferrably when he is well, then he can legally give me meds for him when he gets sick, i just call, tell the receptionist his symptoms....then i go pick up some meds.

there are laws governing anti-biotics even for animals, and the vet is supposed to see them each time they need it. some vets just get to know their patients well enuff to give meds without an exam tho

i am sorry for the loss of your baby, that is sad.
