anal glands

Question
I have a male 7 year cat (neutered) who just this past summer had PU surgery because he was not able to urinate without a catheter.  Since then his diet was changed to Hill's prescription canned food.  (Ironically, he used to have chronic diarrhea before the surgery).  Now after 6 months on moist (he ate dry before), he needed to have his anal glands expressed.  He just had this done 4 weeks ago, and tonight I saw him scooting across the carpet again.  So here goes another trip to the vet.  My question:  Would a dry version be better for this condition?  I have used the moist to improve his fluid intake.  He doesn't drink much water at all.  Even tried the fountains...but perhaps dry would alleviate this new problem.

Answer
Hi Sally,

Did he have any problems with the anal glands before switching him to the Hill's? I would try a no or low grain wet food instead. Wellness, EVO, Eagle Pack, Nature's Variety all make great products. And they are all good for cats with UTI problems. If you don't want to make the switch then try mixing a little of the dry in with the wet food and see what happens then. This might work. Write back and let me know if it does. Good luck.

Hi Sally,

If you have a follow up try to ask it through the feedback comments area. I check my email usually every day.
