Question
I have 2 1month old kittens ,their mom disappeared over the weekend. They have been without a feeding since Sat AM.(It's now Sun PM) All of the stores were closed by the time I got home (I was away my daughter was home) is there anything I can feed them that would be in house until tomorrow?

Answer
Nancy,

These kittens can be weaned.  I would use a good meat baby food to start the weaning process.  Meanwhile, you can concoct a formula for them using one of the following recipes:

1/2 cup 3.5% milk + 1/3 cup of nonfat dry milk + 1 tbsp vegetable oil

or

1/2 cup 3.5% milk + 1/2 cup 18% coffee cream

or

1/2 cup 3.5% milk + 1/4 cup 30% whipping cream

or

1 cup evaporated whole milk + 1/2 cup water

If you have a food processor and some cooked meat, you can liquify it add some cold bullion and try putting that in their mouths and see if you can get them to start eating solid food.

In addition, after feeding, you will have to potty them (use a cotton ball and stimulate their genital areas until they pee.  They may poop once a day.

I would feed them three or four small meals a day, as much as they will eat.

Let me know what happens.

Best regards... Norm.
