chirping

Question
What is your opinion on why cats chirp.  I have a stray that has adopted me, approx. 2 years old, and his way of communicating is chirping.

I have no idea why cats chirp, only that some do and some do not.  I have seen some mamas trill and chirp to their kittens and, it is possible, the behavior has been picked up by some of the kittens.  Other than that, I cannot really come up with any other reason for the behavior.

I am sorry I could not be of more help in this one. I would enjoy the cuteness of the behavior and not worry about it.
