balding tail/scabs

Question
My cat Allie is mostly an indoor kitty. I let her go out in our backyard for maybe an hour or so when the weather permits, but she's too scared to leave the backyard. So why is her tail balding at the base, and also she has scabs all over her whole body. She baths so much its ridiculous, she even sometimes keeps me up at night with her bathing. She's not an ederly cat, she only just recently turned four years old. So what's wrong with her?

Answer
This is most likely a flea problem. The scabs and hair loss indicate that. You may not be able to see the actual fleas yourself because they are very small and jump on and off a cat's skin very quickly and burrow as well.

I recommend taking your cat to the vet immediately and there she will get checked and get a medicine for the condition. You have to treat this problem like you would if this happened to a child. Take them to the doctor to get an exam and go from there.
The over-the-counter flea remedies do not work as they are not prescription strength.

I also highly recommend not letting your cat go outside anymore. Some cats are more prone to flea problems, infections and allergies then others.

Good luck.
