QuestionI am thinking about buying a female kitten which the breeder says was an experimental cross of a Bengal (father) and an African wildcat (mother). She says that the kitten so far is very sweet (at 15 weeks old). I was just wondering if having a wild mother would make the kitten more likely to be aggressive later on. Also, how much is a hybrid generally worth?
AnswerBobbie,
First off, I have a bias against any domestic X wild cat crosses of any kind. I would be extremely leery of a Bengal (already Domestic X Asian Leopard Cat) X African Wildcat. Wild cats are NOT domesticated and can easily go from being sweet to aggressive in a moment without notice.
There is a good market in hybrids because they are being marketed as domestics with a wild look which, I feel, is misleading.
Personally, my bias may be getting in the way of giving you a fair answer. Another expert on this list who has more experience with such crosses might give you a more fair answer.
Sorry I cannot be of more help.
Best regards... Norm.
