Question
QUESTION: I NOTICE THAT MY CAT HAD BLOOD IN HER STOOL. SO I TOOK HER TO THE VET AND THEY DID A FECAL FLOTATION ON HER. THEY GAVE HER AN ALLERGY SHOT.AND SAID SHE HAS WORMES, AND GAVE ME SOME AMOXI DROPS 15ML 2XS A DAY. WHEN I GOT HER HOME I NOTICE THAT SHE HAD TROUBLE WALKING FRONT LEGS OK, BUT HER BACK LEGS DIDN'T WORK RIGHT. ITS LIKE SHE HAS NO STREIGHT IN HER BACK LEGS AND SHE WILL LAY DOWN WHERE HER LEGS GIVE OUT. I TOOK HER BACK TO THE VET. THEY DID A CBC W/DIFF AND VET PROFILE, INJECTION-COMBINATION ANTIBIOTIC. AND THE FOUND THAT HER ANAL GLANDS WERE IMPACKED AND SWOLLEN. AND HER GLU WAS 196 HIGH AND HER LEUKOGRAM WAS 1.27 LOW.  THEY LET MY BABY SIT IN PAIN FOR 2-1/2 DAYS. I DON'T UNDER STAND WHY SHE IS WEAK AND HAVING PROBLEMS WITH HER BACK LEGS.SHE IS DRINKING AND EATING GOOD. SHE SLEEPS ALOT. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!
THANK YOU TERRI 08/22/2011

ANSWER: Terri,

Remember, I am not a vet, but, if it were my cat, I would get a second opinion.  If the cat had worms, I do not understand why the vet was giving you amoxyicillin. It would not surprise me if the impacted anal glands was the source of the weakness in the back end. I would suspect something else might be going on.

I am sorry, but from here, there is not much more I can suggest.

Concerned regards... Norm.

QUESTION: I NOTICE THAT IN THE 1ST EMAIL THAT I MADE A MISTAKE IN IT. SHE DOSE NOT HAVE WORMES. BUT SHE SLEEPS ALOT. SHE IS NOW EATING AND DRINKING REAL GOOD. SOMETIMES SHE FEELS LIKE SHE HAS A FEVER. AND I DO HAVE A 4-MONTH OLD MALE PERISAN KITTEN. AND I KNOW HE KEEPS HER STRESSED ALOT. BECAUSE HE WANTS TO PLAY ALL THE TIME. THERE IS NO MORE BLOOD IN HER STOOL.
PLEASE HELP.  TERRI

Answer
Terri,

Thanks for the correction!!!!!!!!!!

Is she still having trouble with weakness in her hind end?  If not, I would not worry about play with the kitten. Often kitten play can help rejuvinate a middle aged cat like your Himalayan.

Best regards... Norm.
