Hissing

Question
I have recently adopted a mother (18mths) and daughter (8months) and everything was fine to start with. The kitten has always been very nosey and into everything, pushing the mother out of the way for play, affection and food.

The mother now seems to have had enough and has taken to hissing every time they are close to each other.

I can understand why the mother is now a little upset but I'm unsure of what to do to rectify the problem.

Can you help please?

Answer
Tina,

How long have you had them?

Are either or both the mother and/or the daughter spayed?  If not, that would be the place to start.

If they are spayed, do they go outside?  If they can go out of doors or they can see the outdoors through a window, there may be a strange cat in the neighborhood that is upsetting them. If that is the case, time out in an interior room without windows for a couple of hours may help.

It may also be that the mama is jealous and any affection or treats given the kitten must also be given the mama.

Best regards... Norm.
