Feral cat behavior post natal

Question
Hello,

I've been feeding two feral cats, and for a few months they were both coming around a couple of times a day.  They took turns eating, one always the first to eat.

A few weeks ago, one of the cats stopped coming and I worried about her, but then she came around intermittently a few times.  I don't know why the change in her behavior, except that perhaps she had kittens and stays with them.
Does this make sense to you?  Do you have any other possible explanation?

Answer
Marilyn,

It's quite possible that this kitty has a small family hidden away somewhere. It would make sense for her to stay and protect them for the first several weeks of their life and then come back and get good nutrition where she knows she can count on it. Who knows, you may be lucky enough for this kitty to introduce her babies to you if she's comfortable enough with you.
