Discharge in Laboring Cat

13:40:17

Question
Alright, when I carefully put my hand on her stomach (she still bit me)  I'm sure I felt kittens moving in there, so no worms! She's getting even friendlier, and attacks you if you try and leave the room. I have her confined to a bedroom upstairs because my dogs will surely kill a cat, and that way I hope to have some control over where she has her kittens. Last night around 9PM I noticed a clear vaginal discharge, but she wasn't acting differently, just laying on her side on the floor. Today she's been laying on her blanket, sleeping every time I checked on her, though when I gave her fresh food she got up to eat it.

I think I read that cats go off their food when labor is imminent, but she had the clear vaginal discharge associated with starting labor right? This cat is just trying to drive me crazy I think... It probably would be easier if I knew when she was bred, but all I know is that she's been inside for two weeks, and was already showing when I brought her in, and has gotten rounder since...

Any ideas of when I can expect her to give birth since she had the discharge?

Answer
Hi Sydney

It looks like my answer never made it through the system so I'll try again.

Its always a guessing game when it comes to when a cat will give birth unless of course you know when they were mated.  Normally the discharge indicating the birth process is happening is more bloody and happens 24 hour or more before the birth.

I would suggest that you give her a box with newspaper or other such material so that she can rip it up to make a nest. You may find her shape will change when she is due as the kittens drop and she may get very restless.  You may find the kittens go a little quiet too. Yes some cats don't eat just before kittening but not all.
