Possible miscarriage?

13:39:19

Question
Marcia,
Our family cat has been what we think is pregnant for a little bit now. We're not exactly financially fit to take her to a vet and be positive but she shows all the signs. Her nipples are red and swollen and her stomach is a little larger and round. She's about 35+ days into her pregnancy and just the other day I noticed a very small amount of blood where she was lying down. I'm not sure what this means or if I should be concerned. I know this could possibly be a miscarriage which I'm hoping it's not, but if it is, does it mean all the kittens were lost? Please help us with some answers.
Thanks,
Lauren

Answer
Dear Lauren

From what you say, your cat is pregnant.  It is a little early to have a bleed, which though not common is not unusual but this is more likely to happen in the last two weeks of pregnancy.  It does not necessarily mean that she has lost any of the kittens, often cats do go on to have a full term pregnancy, but only time will tell.  Keep an eye on her and if the bleeding does become a lot worse (and remember she may clean some of it up before you see any) then she will need to see a vet.  If you see any other colour discharge then she definitely needs to see the vet as it would mean there is some sort of infection present.

Good luck.

Marcia.
