feline acne or breaking out

Our long haired Calico cat, Posha, periodically breaks out in a crusty rash, usually in her neck and chin area.  Our vet says it's 'acne', will give her a shot, an antibiotic, and it clears up. Is there anything that can be applied to the rash that will clear it up, and not make our cat sick?

hello there.

it depends how bad the acne gets.  have you or your vet shave her chin with pet clippers. this helps air the skin out.

what you can do at home is use witch hazel on a cotton pad and swab it 2x's per day.  You can also use stridex pads.

do not feed her out of plastic bowls, and you should wash her dishes out daily with hot soapy water.
