Cat having balance, weight problems.

Question
Hi, I have a cat who is approx 9-12 years old.  In the last few months she has dramatically lost a lot of weight.  She is very skinny.  However, she eats normally and has not lost her apatite.  Her litter box also seems normal.  Furthermore, she seems to drool a lot now, and she is losing balance a lot.  She will miss a step here or there, or be on the arm of a couch and almost fall off.  Finally her coat seems to be a little greasier than normal, but I don't know if that is really a symptom.

I plan on taking my cat to a vet, but do not get custody of her until August, and also wanted to check here first so I know what questions to ask the vet.  Is losing weight and becoming a little clumsy with a slight drooling problem just old age?  Or could it be something like worms?  This cat is on no medication for anything that I can think of- even heart worms.

Is the fact that her coat has a little extra grease a sign of anything?  I am most worried about her weight- it seems she is all skin and fur- not a lot of fat to speak of.

What do you think?

Answer
I think the cat needs to be seen now and not in August!!!  She may have something serious going on inside especially with the weight loss.  IT could be something like diabetes, which if untreated can cause serious neurological problems. If she has a middle ear infection making her have balance issues and nausea it needs to be treated now. Without an exam I cannot tell you what is wrong over the internet.
