Am I wrong?

Question
I asked you a question several days ago about possibly having mange (I am seeing a dermatologist this next Tues - finally "begged" one to see me) but my 11 week old kitten that I was raising inside had caught it from me, I'm fairly sure.  I took him to the vet yesterday for treatment - and they gave him some Revolution (for kittens under 5 lbs. and over 8 weeks old) plus some Amoxicillin plus told me to give him the Revolution twice in the next month.  By the time we left the drs. office, Harry was already sleepy (or so I thought) and sluggish.  He just kept getting worse and by 9 last night, died.  I KNEW he was dying - but thought surely if there were any chance of that, they would have told me of it.  There was NO mention of that possibility so I felt safe in him taking it. Now...you have to understand that I am the type of person that NEVER has my animals put to sleep when I take them there (and they know that).  I tell them I will nurse them until they die (fortunately, they have all recovered) because I have been through that and the memories left behind are too heavy.  Yet, I feel they should have said there was a possibility of grave illness from this medication.  Harry weighed .7 of a pound - so he was not very big but he was healthy as he ate all the time.

The thing is - not only do I feel somewhat betrayed in not being warned, but they also know that my financial condition does not warrant a bill of $114.00 (which must be paid at time of visit) to have my kitten die hours later.  I feel it's sort of cold and callous of me (to my kitten's honor) to ask for a portion of the money back - but am wondering if I in the wrong for thinking they should offer some of it back?  I talked to the vet this morning - and all he said was that he was really sorry about my kitten and did not think it would have died, etc. but no mention of the money (and I did say I really could not have afforded to pay that had I know of the possiblity of death as I could have kept on doctoring him as I was -I am an animal lover and have doctored cats and kittens for the past 35 years - mostly strays that come to my home here in the country)and I knew he had the probability of dying with my doctoring which is why I took him to a professional!

Is this wrong of me? Should I call him back and ask if he wouldn't reconsider a partial refund?  I really like these doctors (but this was the son - and the last couple of times there, it seems as if he has not been as concerned with the animals as he should have been.  The daddy is much friendlier.) but don't want to jeopardize my relationship with them - but don't want to be (excuse my expression) screwed, either. I am just wondering what the right thing to do is.  I gave them a check and could have it stopped over the weekend - but I know that would make them mad.  If this happened to you, how would you react to someone asking for a refund?

Thansk.

Answer
The first thing I would do is to call Pfizer and report that the kitten died after a treatment with
Revolution.  The vet can put in an adverse drug report. Pfizer may then re-imburse you for the veterinary fees.

If you have been a good client of this veterinary clinic, then I would talk to the daddy (or the owner of the clinic)and ask him for a credit on your account for half of the bill rather than a cash refund.
