Dog keeps scratching--pills aint working

Hey Ellen,
My dog keeps scratching, the vet gave us some "prenisonlone" and that is NOT working at all. We just gave him benedrill, in the hopes that that will do something. If I call the vet, they'll say "you better come in and have him checked out", then they'll give him a few shots, and charge me about $180, literally.

Can you help us with this issue?

First of all find another vet if you are that unhappy.

Second consider the following:

has my dog been checked for food allergies?
is this seasonal allergies?
is he on flea control?

MANY skin problems are very annoying, and they take a long time to get them cleared up and feeling better.

You can use an oatmeal based shampoo to help soothe the skin, continue the benedryl- ask your vet for the appropriate dose though, and do find someone else that fits your needs.
