Puppies not getting enough milk

18 15:22:35

Question
I have 2 week old puppies. Recently I have noticed that they seem to struggle more when they are drinking milk from their mother. I was wondering if I can help the mother by feeding the puppies puppy formula while they are still drinking milk from their mother?

Answer
If it seems that the mother does not have enough milk it would be acceptable to supplement.  Ideally let them nurse from her first as the mother passes antibodies and natural substances that artificial formula cannot, then offer them the formula to allow them more to eat if they are still hungry.

Best of luck to you and your canine companions.
