Lethargic Ferret

Question
I recently acquired 3 ferrets, the youngest one, just will not play or interact with any of the other ferrets. I do not know exactly how well he was cared for, his behavior is very lethargic. What can I do for him?

Answer
Edward -

I am sorry that your ferret is not doing well . Check  the color of his gums to see if he may be anemic.  The color should be nice and pink.  If the gums are pale, it is likely that your ferret is anemic.

Make sure they are on flea preventative.  Fleas can surely cause anemia if they occur in high numbers.

Have your veterinarian examine each of the ferrets.  Ferrets often develop hairballs just as cats do.  Your vet can help you to determine the health status of your pets.
