Question
Say you have an AKC basset hound female (weighing in at a whopping 70+ lbs) and a little tiny tiny Chihuahua male about 7lbs.  we never thought in a million years it would happen but it did, she's pregnant.  so my question is after she has this litter of what were calling taco hounds and say its two years from now and we breed her with another basset hound, can she have a Chihuahua puppy?  I've been told that she is ruined.  is this true? Thanks for your time to answer this because I'm totally confused?!?!

Answer
That would be like saying that you married an Chinese man and had his child then two years later married an African-American and had his.
Would your child be Chinese? I think not.

Who ever says these things and spreads this kind of stuff is nuts.
No sperm can live two years, no bitch will have a litter of mixed pups IF she is bred to one dog only.

If she is running loose she can have a puppy from every dog that breeds her until her uterus is full. In other words, if three dogs breed her she could have three from one dog, one from the second dog and two from the third dog. That's the way it works.

If she is bred to a Basset Hound in two years then she will have Basset Hound puppies-provided she isn't cross bred again.

Get your male dog neutered and you won't have this problem again.
She is also way to big to be breeding. Female Bassets should not top out over 50 lbs to be healthy. Unless she is really tall, which in that case she is too tall to be a breed standard, then she is overweight.

After these pups get her on a diet and get her in shape to have purebred puppies without complications. And get her on Science Diet Puppy Growth for this litter until they are weaned, then put her on Science Diet Adult Light to help her reduce her weight.
