Question
My kitty is very lethargic, will not take food and is just sitting and is not her playful self. She seems like her balance is off. any advise?

Answer
You cannot take chances with young kittens. They are too small to have much of a reserve so you really need to get her into a vet's tomorrow. Waiting could be disastrous.

In the meantime try to get her to drink water or give her eyedroppers full with Karo syrup mixed into it to get her glucose levels up.

Mix two teaspoons of Karo and one teaspoon of salt into a quart of water and mix it well, then give her about 6 eyedroppers full or at least three syringes-full (if you have a 3 cc syringe) about every half hour.

Don't use a turkey baster as that will drown her- they are too big. You may need to go the drugstore and ask the pharmacist for a syringe or get the largest eyedropper you can find there.

This will help balance her electrolytes and her blood sugars.
Let me know if you need any more advice. But mainly call the vet and make her an appointment first thing in the morning. Most vets are open on Saturdays now.

Please let me know how she does.

Mark,
I am very glad to hear that she is better. Cats become lactose intolerant once they are weaned so giving her milk of any sort can lead to some nasty diarrhea. If you want to make sure she has complete nutrition, get her on a bag of Science Diet Kitten growth. She won't need anything else but that until she is a year old. It is full of the correct balance of nutrients so they require less food to meet their energy needs. Their stool is smaller because it is so highly digestible also. You will be glad you put her on it. You will notice a huge difference in her in three weeks after she starts eating it. And she won't have any glucose issues either with it.

Make sure her water is always full and clean but no more milk. Purina kitten chow is coated in milk (and has no nutritional value) so please don't feed her that.
Thanks again for letting me know.
