Question
i recently changed my dogs food due to allergies. he is now eating venison and pea food. however his poop is white is this a problem i should be worried about? he acts fine. his vaccinations are all current. he just had his booster shots and vet check up about 2 months ago. he is 7 years old and a begal mixed breed.

Answer
It might mean that he isn't digesting the food properly, but there a lot of reasons it could be white.

Usually with a mal-absorption issue they also have a lot of mucous in their stool and it is usually very large and soft. Not cow-patty soft but not hard.

Since this just started since you changed the food I would think that is the culprit. It doesn't mean it's bad but I would watch his weight and check it monthly. If he starts losing weight then he isn't digesting this food.

He may need some digestive enzymes added to his food to help him if he is going to stay on this food.

Other causes can be medications, additives, things he might have eaten outside, etc. Since you didn't include the brand I can't go look at the ingredients and see what else might be in it.

If the dog has other symptoms or they develop, such as loose stool, mucous in the stool, rumbling gut, vomiting, depression, lethargy etc. then the vet should see him again and do some blood work for malabsorption disease.

But most likely it's from something in the food.
