Answer
Hi Glenna!I am so sorry for the late reply!I had over 5 bad viruses on my computer and it took a couple of days for a computer expert to fix it!Again,I am so sorry!

Are you sure he has arthritis? If you are not sure, you will need to go to the vet so can give the dog x-rays to find out the diagnosis and treatment. If you are sure he has arthritis, here is what you can try,but please,I would highly recommend CALLING a vet before trying any of this.

Lighten his load.Heavy pets are more likely to suffer joint pain than trimmer dogs. If he is overweight slimming him down is the best thing for him.

Regular excercise is vital to contrilling the progression of arthritis, which is why vets recommend taking pets for a 20-minute walk several times a day.

If your pet is sleeping on a hard surface he may get some relief if you switch to something soft and warm.A little moist heat applied directly over painful joints can also be a great comfort. One trick is to use a hot water bottle filled with warm not hot water. Apply the heat twice a day morning and evening for about 15 minutes each time. Do not use a heating pad they can burn animals skin very badly!

Giving your dog buffered aspirin can be  a great help for arthritis pain.Experts recommend giving one-quarter of a 325-milligram tablet per 10 pounds of dog twice a day. A 40-pound pooch for example will need one tablet twice a day. To prevent stomach upset always use buffered aspirin and give it only after meals.

Remember that doses of aspirin that are safe for dogs can be deadly to cats.In addition don't give dogs other over-the-counter painkillers without first checking with your vet.

Swimming is great exercise because it maintains muscle mass without stressing arthritic joints. Many arthritic dogs tend to naturally want to swim.Vets recommend taking your dog to a near by pond, lake, swimming pool or any other body of water where he won't have to fight big waves. For small pets, even a bathtub full of lukewarm water can be a real treat.Wherever your pet swims, let him swim as long as he wants,as long as ghe doesn't seem tired.Of course, some dogs will turn tail at first sign  of water,so don't force the issue if your pet happens to be a landlubber.

When the temperature dips, you may want to bundle your pet into a coat or sweater.Anything you can do to keep him warm could make his arthritis less painful. You can explore the world of baute couture at most pet stores.

PLEASE call your vet before trying this to be on the safe side! Please keep me posted and good luck!Give that doggie some kisses for me!
