moviing a pet snake from Tokyo to NYC

We currently live in tokyo and will be relocating this summer to NYC is it possible to bring our son's pet king snake with us. Is this a costly process and how difficult is it to move reptiles by air?

It is possible to bring a snake back into the US.  Care will have to be taken to keep him in climate control -- usually using heat packs will work to keep him warm enough for the trip, and a pillowcase placed in a small ventilated box is appropriate for a travel crate.
