Question
Hello Mr. Mishler,
I have been searching for answers regardng flying with my dog to sweden,
besides it's such a long flight.
have you heard anything about Swedish authorities? how is the flight, I mean,
for my dog? is that stressful? I heard it's. Well, I heard so many bad stories... I
am little bit scared. And Bella, my dog, she's such a doll, so kind, I found her
when she was only 1 year old, but I am sure she was bitten by stupid people
while she was on streets, so she is afraid of strangers, of course, and har
movements as well.
She is 3 years old and she means everything to me (what worries me way
more is the transportation all the way to Sweden, once there is no straight
flight from Brazil (Sao Paulo) to Stockholm (I do always make a connection
stop or either Frankfurt or Paris); anyway,  air companies are the ones who
worries me more, once I have heard stories regarding animals transportation,
and not so good ones, such as " make sure when you step in the plane,
advice the pilot your dog is travelling with you down in the basement once he
can always forget to turn on the hit and the dog can die frozen. Is that
possible? I mean, it can be true??? Someone, or some company be that
irresponsible not to care of a little fellow who badly can express itself?).
Anyway, Bella is my cockapoo, 3 years old and weights around 16kg. She is
my everything and whatever I go, she goes with me. She is well treated, even
way well treated, great food (Hill's or Proplan), good meat, fresh water all the
time, all vaccines has been taken, all Rabies vaccination and more vaccines
(such as giardia and V10) she has taken since she has born, she has been
regularly visiting her vet,  every year and also she has made her labs exams at
Pasteur lab, one of most well respected in the world. She has her CZI
certificated card and everything; plus she takes medicine for de-worming
twice a year.
She never leaves Sao Paulo (Brazil), what it means, she's been always in the
same town, same place, her quarantine in this matters is already fulfilled.
My biggest question is: Even she has all this vaccines, CZI, vet's certificates
and so on... DOES SHE REALLY NEED TO BE IN QUARANTINE WHEN SHE
ARRIVES IN SWEDEN??? AND WHERE IS IT? WHERE EXACTLY IS THIS
QUARANTINE? HOW IS THAT WORKS?
Is there any way of her avoiding quarantine? Even if she has all the
vaccines taken, a vet approval certificated, well accepted blood tested and
de-worming tests proving she is completely in a great health condition ????

I would appreciate a lot if you could gimme more updating regarding this
issue, once I don't understand about it so much. I am naive regarding
quarantine and very very very concerned regarding it as well.
Super super super thanks for such attention and I am looking forward to
hearing from you ASAP.

Answer
Dear Aline
I can only refer you to the following sources of info for Sweden
They can best address all requirements, quarantine, etc
Sweden is part of the EU, and their pet entry requirements are more
like the UK than most of the rest of the EU
Swedish Board of Agriculture, Animal Health Division
jordbruksverket@sjv.se   tel 46 36 155 000  fax 46 36 155 005

debbie@manloten.com   sorry no website or tel

www.trustforwarding.com     very poor website
truststo@sas.se

Also, contact DEFRA in UK  I have a link from p.4 of my website

Totally forget the horrible rumors you have heard about pet travel.
Absolutely no truth.  The airlines take excellent care of pets.
I would recommend Lufthansa or KLM.  If you have access to SAS, this
would be excellent.
Hope this helps. Let me know
Best regards, Jerry Mishler
