Serpent starfish

Question
I have a serpent starfish and he's done fine until recently. I've noticed his disc is deteriorating. The whole of the disc is almost gone. His limbs aren't affected yet. If they don't do well to copper treatment, who do you cure it of the bacterial infection? Need info ASAP! He's still moving around. All my water is from reverse osmosis, its a 20g reef and there are no fish. Only the same things that have been in there for 2 years.

Answer
Hi Chris. I am sorry to say that there is no way to cure a bacterial infection in a starfish especially if it has attacked the central disk. These starfish can regenerate into new individual starfish by splitting but there needs to be a good portion of the central disc left in order for this to happen. At this point all you can really do is wait and see. This infection will either kill it or cause a split. However it is more likely that the starfish's outlook is not so good.
