Measuring Salt Water

Question
How can I make seawater for my fish tank and what tools will I need to measure it?

Answer
Hello Barbara,

Use ReefSalt, purchased from a local fish store or from online sources...Depending on what corals you ahve and how often you do water changes, I suggest using the least expensive brands, which are usually Instant OCean or ReefCrystals...

Mix the solution in a non metalic container, (5gl jug???) or larger...

Use RO/DI water or bottled water or water from a 'water machine'...

Each brand uses different quantities of salt/water to get to the desired 'salinity'/specific gravity.  Typically I reccoment mixing it to a SG of 1.026

After initial mixing, i suggest using a cheap/small powerhead to mix the water a few times each day, until you use it up...

I hope this helps.
