Side floating Koi

Question
We transported 3 Koi from one pond to another today, travelling was approx 2 hrs. The fish seemed fine when they first went in the pond but now one keeps floating on its side and seems quite lifeless. What shall I do?

Answer
Did you acclimate them to the new water by putting them in a container of old water and slowing adding new water?  If not, the shock can cause listlessness.  At this point, you can't undo that but you can ensure the water is of good quality.  Is the water new or aged?  If new, did you add dechlorinator?  What about pond salt?  Is the pond well aerated?  I would add an additional air stone to be sure to aerate the water well.  Have you tested the pH, hardness, ammonia, and nitrite levels in the pond?  The koi may still recover.  I hope so!  Good luck!
