Question
QUESTION: I have two ponds...with about 70 fish.. lost of water lillies and lotuses. Most of the fish is golden fish in the pond for last seven years.. it was very healthy and even reproducing for last many years. Since last three years the pond is invaded by frogs.. (green color) who come to mate with millions of tad poles.. they are thriving.. I was shocked to see that three weeks ago suddenly all fish disappeared.. no dead bodies either.. the frogs are OK. I am so sad as these fish were doing well for last seven years. No changes were made in the pond, except that in late June I tried to clean it by just removing some debri.. dead leaves etc from the edges of the pond..now the water of the pond is quite green.. what could be the reason???

ANSWER: Hi Asha,
Thanx for your question.  It is very possible and probable that the frogs ate your fish.  It's hard to get rid of them once they have found a new, safe home.  A lot of goldfish won't eat tadpoles, especially bullfrog tadpoles which are too large for them to eat.  IF the ponds aren't too big, you might try fishing out as many of the tadpoles as you can and removing them to another pond or lake.  I am sorry about your fish.  That must be very disappointing.

QUESTION: Thanks Tom:
How to get rid of Frogs.. the ponds are 10/12 round and 4/6 oval.. the frogs are now owning the place.. even dog is unable to chase them. I am scooping out the tad poles..

Answer
Hi Asha,
Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do to get rid of the frogs that owon't harm your fish or plants.  What I would do is continue to remove tadpoles and look for eggs.  The eggs look like clear jelly with black dots in them.  As the eggs mature, you can actually see the tiny tadpole in them.  Also, remove the frogs if you can.  I'm sorry.  I know this isn't what you wanted to hear and I wish I had other methods.
