Question
Ok in May/June we bought what was supposed to be a waterlily. I thought ok. We brought it home i planted it and all was fine. Then while i was searching google, i figured out that water lilies have huge leaves, while the leaves of mine didn't even top 3 inches. So i combed the internet and found nothing. My lily wasn't even sold as a dwarf. So i thought i had planted it wrong. I looked up how to plant, looks like the pot was too small. But lilies have roots...and heres the weird part...my "lily" has a solid, cone like bottom...what is going on. Is it a lily. The bottom was always like this and never had normal stringy roots.Help.

Answer
Hi,
Thanx for your question.  The waterlilies I have are grown from a rhizome which often resembles a long pine cone which sounds like what you are describing.  There are many types of water lilies and some that aren't the conventional kind.  You proabably do have a dwarf even though it wasn't marketed as such.  Has it bloomed yet?  What did the bloom look like.  What is your region?  Is it tropical or hardy?  I hope this helps.
