Question
My Betta fish is having problems eating. I have been feeding it Hikari Betta bio-gold for 3 months. Recently I was feeding him his pellets and I noticed he was eating them and then spiting them out. Is there something wrong with him?

Answer
Hi Jasmine;

Sometimes it means they aren't feeling well, are constipated or the water temperature is too low. Change his water and withold food for 2 days. Hopefully it will clear his digestive system. After the 2 days of fasting, feed him cooked, peeled green peas and not regular food. It works as a laxative and most bettas really like it. After 2 days of peas, try regular food again.

Be sure his water temperature is at least 78 degrees. Bettas need warm water and may not be able to digest if it's cooler than that. Watch him for signs if bloating and be sure he doesn't have any signs of finrot, fungus, bulging eyes, or other abnormalities.
