1...hi my tank is running for about almost three month with one tigerbarb. I heard that tigerbarb do best in a group no less than 4. They do best in a group 6. Since i have one tiger barb in it. Iam thinking about adding 3 more then later another three more. Iam also afraid that not only they will nip and fish if don't keep them in a group. But they nip each others, thats their normal behaviour. Would this cause injury to each other if i keep them in a group. Iam trying to keep them in 4 first. My tank is about 25 gallon, well decorated with lots of artifical plants. I seen that one of my fried aquarium he had 7 tiger barb and some of them were injured, and some tigerbarb also fight eachother. Please help..

2.. i Heard that you have to change the carbon everymonth, before i change the carbon, should i well rinsed it very good. I heard that carbon dust can kill the fish in my tank. Please help

thanks

Hello,

1. Yes tiger barbs are best kept in groups. No, the nipping and fighting will not kill them just add some aquarium salt to your aquarium every now and then to help heal any wounds that may occur.

2. Yes, carbon dust can kill your fish and it is very important to rinse your new carbon before putting it in the filter. You can rinse it under running tap water until the water runs clean, and that should be good.

1..some expert said that they should be kept in a odd number like 3 or five tiger barb. They said that this should keep the aggression down and jury down as well. Do you know y i should keep the tiger barb in a odd number. So far i only have one fish in my tank which is just one barb. How may should i keep?

2.. I rinse my new carbon in my aquarium water to keep some benefical bacteria. Is that ok, or should i rinse it in a tap water?

Answer
Hello,

1. Having an odd number of fish doesn't make any difference what so ever. I would not worry about it.

2. Rinsing your carbon in aquarium water is absolutely fine (as long as you don't rinse it directly in your tank.) The reason that you can also use tap water, is because with new carbon it already doesn't have any beneficial bacteria so you are not killing any by rinsing it in tap water.
