Red Platy...malnourished?

Question
I have a tank filled with guppies and platies. I probably have more than i need (it's just hard to stop them from breeding!). well i found 2 of my platies looking kinda skinny and frail. their backs seem crooked. i thought it might be because they aren't getting enough food. All the fish seemed to compete for it and these platies might not be as aggresive. I put them both in a seperate tank so they could eat. One of them can't swim and is having a hard time eating. Is my hypothesis right?!?!?!

Answer
HiYa!

Crooked back....sounds like it may have a broken back, believe it or not it happens and it doesn't right itself. I would either keep them in a separate tank, so they continue to get food, or unfortunately put them to sleep. Having said that, they will continue to survive fine with a broken back, but yeah if they have to compete for their food as you said they have been, they are going to struggle.

Cheers! Rach
