Question
ok... I bought a 30 gallon tank with all my supplies. Also i bout (2 betas one male one female,5 guppies, and one placasumus.) then 3 days later i bought (2 tiger fish,2 little algae eaters and one bala shark). I wake up the next morning and couldn't find a guppy so i was looking and looking until i saw it at the bottom trying to go back up but couldn't so i put it in a separate tank while i ate breakfast and went to check on it and it was dead!! then same thing the nest morning. went to check on them and another guppie was missing, suddenly i found it laying dead at the bottom.

I was wondering maybe another fish attacked it because their tail fins looked bit off?

please help explain?

PS. thank you

Answer
Hi Enrique,
You are probably right about another fish either attacking the guppies or just trying to eat them.Sometimes, other fish will attack if they think a certain area of the tank is their territory.
You do have a combination of fish that could cause some problems in the future. The male and female bettas may have problems later. Even people who raise bettas have to be very careful not to place them together, only when they are sure the female is full of eggs, or sometimes the male will attack the female. Be sure to keep an eye on those two. You might have to separate them soon. Also, sometimes bettas will mistake guppies for a betta since guppies have the pretty tail fins. They have been known to attack guppies so that could be what is happening. Of course your tiger fish are also possibly causing the problem too. Just observe and you just might catch whoever is doing it.Sometimes fish can be really sneaky about when they attack other fish. Some will wait until the lights are off at night and then attack. If it keeps happening then you might want to consider separating some of your fish just to protect the others.
Hope this has helped,
Karen
