Question
QUESTION: i just got a 29 gallon aquarium. we put 17 fish in and by the next day 4 were already dead! the person at the pet store said it was okay to use well water (even though it smells like eggs) so i cant figure out why they are all dieing! please help me save my fish!.... do i need a heater?  bottled water?  were new at this so were clueless

ANSWER: To put 17 fish in a 29 gallon all at once is recipe for disaster.  To start a tank, you should put 2 maybe 3 fish in and cycle the tank.  Here is an article about cycling.

I would suggest returning all remaining fish and following these directions:

You will def. need a heater for anything other than goldfish, and a dechlorinator/heavy metal neutralizer.  In a 29 gallon tank, you can have about 12-15 small fish.  About 29" of adult fish as a matter of fact.  What kind of fish do you have?  what kind of decor?

QUESTION: we changed the water to bottled water, got the dechlorinator/heavy metal neutralizer, got the heater set to 78 ... for a couple days everything was alright... an then today they started dieing again. we have mollies mostly. and a few bottom feeders. 2 female bettas. for decorations we have a ceramic fish that blows bubbles, 2 fake corals, a castle, and a couple tall, fake, plants.

Answer
Bottled water only works if you mix it with the tap water.  Also, you need to check the water every day and if the water shows more than .25 in ammonia or nitrite, do a 50% water change.  This is important, you must keep the ammonia and nitrite down or you will continue to lose fish.  You may have to change 50% every single day in order to keep your fish alive.  What kind of bottom feeders do you have?
