not enough air?

Question
I've had this goldfish for years and now he's always bobbing at the surface and his body is situated in a vertical position.  I have a pump and in the tank, but it's like he doesn't have enough air.  But he's never done this before in all the other years that he's been in the tank.  The only thing I've done recently is change the water about a week ago.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Mike:  sounds like a swim bladder issue... try feeding him some frozen green peas (thawed) or some live brine shrimp... Add some aquarium salt to his tank as this will help give him minerals that may mend his swim bladder.... also do another partial water change and make sure that the bottom of his tank is clean... if you can get the tank water tested and let me know that the chemistry values are that would very helpful... your local aquarium will test it for you ... let me know ... and keep me posted... dave
