my betta fish appears to be very sick

Question
I have had my betta fish for about a month and a half now. She is usually swimming around and always eats the food I feed. I feed her every other day.  Lately I've noticed she hasnt been eating her food, and yesterday my sister told me she was lying on the bottom of the tank, so we put a little bit of conditioning in the water again. My fish appeared to be acting normal, yet the food was still floating at the top uneaten. I just got home tonight and she is in the corner on the bottom of the tank with gills wide open, breathing quickly; and face up.  I have no idea what is wrong but if there is anything at all i can do to help her, please let me know as soon as you can. thank you

Answer
Hi Jill: I would do a water change and see if she perks up if not I would start her on some antibiotics... betta fish tend to do better with antibiotics then regular meds.... Sounds like to me she is having a hard time breathing and that usually means either the water is too warm...above 86 or there is a water chemistry issue... dave
