Question
Hi
I am interested in starting a tropical setup using a 30L biOrb and was hoping to include some guppies (all males?), tetra and some danios and was just wondering if those breeds will be ok together.  I have heard that danios can sometimes bully tetra and was wondering if this was the case?
I was also hoping to have a plec and maybe a miniature frog. I have since learned that the ceramic media in a biorb is not suitable for a bottom feeder due to it being sharp and therefore was going to go with a mini frog instead.  I was just wondering what frogs are like to keep?
Any advice would be gratefully received!
Thanks
Linzi

Answer
Hi Linzi,
I've never known danios to bully tetras and I've always kept these two species together perfectly fine for years.

As far plecos go. I would only get get a bristlenose if you decide to get a pleco. Common plecos grow far too large for most setups. Or get some otocinclus instead which are tiny but excellent algae eaters.

Frogs don't need too much fancy care but their needs are quite specific. Probably feeding them is the biggest worry in a community setup. The fish will tend to get all of their food before the frogs even know its around. There are methods people have devised to feed the frogs and also there are special things they need to eat to stay healthy...unfortunately they never do well on simple shrimp pellets or fish flakes.

Make sure to cycle your tank before fully stocking it with fish. If you aren't sure what that is just ask or there are lots of articles you can find devoted to this very important process.

I think this website would really help answer your questions on the endearing little aquatic frogs you're interested in.  ;)

I hope this helps and best of luck!
