Question
I have an oscar that has popeye. I cant find this Maracyn or maracyn 2 that I need in time to help cure this. Are there any other home remedies I can try until I am able to find it or get it offline?  I know about the Epsom Salt. He has only had this since Saturday. He is also acting kindof lethargic by just lounging on the bottom of the tank and stayin more to hisself since the issue. Can you help me?

Answer
Hi Nakita,
Not sure of you are aware of this but sometimes Popeye can correct itself if measures are taken to get rid of the most common trigger to this condition. Poor water quality is often the result and this would be very logical since oscars are big waste producers and pollute their aquarium quickly.

Some epsom salt wouldn't hurt. And I'd do giant 50% or larger water changes daily on him and it just might go away on its own. If he is still eating, feeding some food soaked in fish vitamins (or I've even used human liquid vitamins) couldn't hurt either.

Poor fella, Just as a precaution too check the water quality if possible. Check for ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates. These levels should be as follows- Ammonia-0 Nitrite-0 Nitrate-20 or less.

Best of luck and here's a great website on oscars-
