Question
Hello there! I have a 10 gallon tank that has live plants in it, a couple of african dwarf frogs and some bumble bee gobbies... I would like to introduce a newt or a salamander that is totally water locked(there will be no land area at all). Is it possible to have one be fully aquatic all the time and if so, can you suggest a particular one?
thanks

Answer
Hi Phaedra,
There are in fact several species of fully-aquatic newts/salamanders. The first one that comes to mind is the Axolotls. Other species are- Mud puppies, Paddletail newts, Crested newts....

If you have no luck with finding any of the fully aquatic newt species. You could mimic a floating island and avoid having to have a complete land area (paludarium setup). You could create a floating island (after lowering the water level a few inches) out of uncured driftwood and live or fake plants. Just a thought.

I hope this helps and best of luck!
Karen~
