Question
Hi I am in the process of setting up a predator tank. most of the fish i am going to get are picivores (they eat fish)and I am wondering what the best kind of feeder fish would be and what fish is the easiest to get to breed and have tons of fry. Thanks for the help

Answer
Hi Jon,

I found this question in the 'pool', sorry for any slow response.

Most livebearing fish, such as Guppies, Swordtails, and Mollies, are extremely easy to breed, and large, predatory fish, such as piranhas, will enjoy snacking on them. I would advise against buying feeder goldfish (the ones you find at PetSmart or PetCo for 12 cents), because those are raised poorly, and often carry diseases, which will be then transmitted to your predatory fish. Your best bet would be to buy some nice, healthy livebearers, (Which reproduce around every 23-4 months), and use those as a supplementary food.

You can feed fish fillets, lean chicken meat, and beef heart, with the fat removed.

I hope this helps, best of luck!
