Betta tank cleaning

Question
Good Morning;
  I am using a 5 gal tank with heater and filter. I understand aged water. How often do I clean and will the same applications apply for that size as for a bowl? Will Algae eaters help?

Answer
Richard,
Since you are using a filter, remember to cycle the tank before you add the fish. This process takes up to 6 weeks. Since he is a Betta, no filter is necessary. You will still change out 25% of the water weekly by vacuuming the gravel. Replace with clean conditioned water. In that small of a tank, no algae eater will go in. They need bigger tank. If you keep up the water changes, make sure the light is on no longer than 8 hours, and remove all uneaten food, this should help control algae.
