i was wondering if the setup i have is too much for my tank.....i have 2 convicts that have just laid eggs...i have one Pleco - Suckermouth catfish that i have heared u shouldnt have it in any smaller tank then 200 gallon,i have one red tailed black shark and a  electric blue Maui cichlid.since the convicts have laid there eggs i put a chunk of glass in there dividing the convicts and the others ,,,,,,my tank is only 25 gallon so im thinking its way too small for the fish i have ...but i was also told fish only grow to the size of the tank.....if u could please give me some info that would be great.....ohhh sorry one more thing...my  electric blue cichlid has been eating my algae eaters dorsal fin and his tail fin what can i do to help him out a bit .....i see him grab ahold of my algae eater and throw him around like a rag doll ...ty for your time

Answer
Hi Sean,
The fish you have are mostly cichlids with a red-tailed shark.  Cichlids and Sharks are aggressive, which explains why the algae eaters are getting bit.  The fish only grow to the size of the tank because the small tank size has stunted its growth.  It will cause health problems further down the road and the fish may or may not die.  I would separate the algae eater and the cichlid.  I would also invest in a larger tank if possible.  I don't necessarily think a 200 gallon... but keep in mind that the Pleco, if it's a Common Pleco, get almost 2 feet long.
Good luck!
