Tannins in the water - how long to clear?

Question
Jaymie,

I bought a piece of driftwood for my 37 gallon freshwater tank.  I boiled it initially for at least 2 hours (probably 4) before adding it to the tank.  After two weeks the water is still yellow.  Today I added some extra filter bags of carbon to my flow filter (probably 3/4 of a cup total carbon).  After 8 hours the water is still yellow.  How long should it take to clear the water, and how ofter should I replace the carbon?

Thanks!!

Answer
John,

As long as the driftwood is in your tank, you will have a yellow tint to your water. It will not hurt your fish at all, and some will probably thank you for putting it in. As far as the carbon, you can just change it as often as you ave done before. Rest assured your tank is ok and no harm will come to your fish because of the driftwood. Hope this has helped. If you have any more questions or concerns just let me know.
