Question
HELP. My betta fish is obese. :( I don't want her to become constipated or get swim bladder disease. How can I help her lose weight? I'm serious. She eats too much. She eats betta fish food, baby fish food, and catfish food. She is extremely bloated and almost looks like she has dropsy. She is NOT pregnant because the only male fish in the tank is a platy and I don't think a platy and betta splenden can breed.

Answer
Desirai,

Betta's do not get pregnant. They are egg layer. There is a god chance she does have eggs and since there will be no breeding, her body will absorb them. In case it is constipation, fast her for 2 days and on the third day feed her a cooked shelled pea. Cut into bite size pieces, then fast her again for 2 days. As for the feeding, only give her food made for the Betta fish. She does not need the baby fish food nor does she need the food made for a catfish. The food is what can be causing the roundness too. After you give her the pea, let me know how she is.
