Question
Hello Susan. I have a couple of questions. I have a 75 gallon tank with a VERY mixed variety of tropical fish. I have 3 amazon puffers, a peacock eel, two kissing gourami, a gold gourami, a blue gourami, and I plan to add a pearl, opaline, and platinum. Is that going to be a problem? I have lots of hiding places, lots of rocks, plants etc but I just don't want there to be an issue. I also want to add a black ghost. I had one when I first started into the hobby a while back and didn't know that they were sensitive towards new tanks. Haha anyways, thanks!

Answer
Hi Rachel,
Its a bit difficult to say whether or not there will be problems with adding new gourami species into the aquarium with your already established community.

In most cases, with your large aquarium and plenty of hiding places you -should- be able to add the Pearl, Opaline, and Platinum gouramis. There may be some initial territorial 'bluffs' when the new ones are first introduced.

In my experience, its very difficult to say when mixing gourami species together if all will be well. Sometimes they get along and simply establish a 'pecking order' within the group. While others are very aggressive and territorial.
Try adding the three all at the same time if you can. Feed the resident fish right when you add the new ones to provide a distraction while the new fish try to settle in.

Keep an eye on everyone of course. :-)

As for the Black Ghost. I recommend reading up on this fascinating fish first just to get in the know of what tank conditions they prefer and what foods they like to eat.

Best of luck with your aquarium!
I hope this helps!
