Snail shells

Question
Stephanie:  I previously went on this ask a question site to ask a questin about my snails in my tank.  I have a 10 gal. tank with fish and 3 snails, that I enjoy to watch.  The problem is that the snails shells seem to be corroding.  I was told to put a cuddle bone in the tank.  But when I did the tank became murky.  Can you help me with this problem.  I took the cuddle bone out and hope the tank clears up.  I want my snails to have healthy shells.  This tank is at my boyfriends house but I plan to be setting up one at my house.  Any good advise would be helpful and grateful.   Thank you.

Answer
Hello!

Personally, I have never had any snails and would not recommend them at all, they are usually a nuisance and aren't especially good at cleaning the tank. I don't think you should worry about them to much.

Other then that, I can give you a couple suggestions. If you are very worried about them, put the 'cuddle bone' back in your tank. If the water is murky, decide if it's good or bad murkiness. If it is a tea color, it is probably fine. It is is white or another unnatural colour murkiness then I recommend not adding the cuddle bone. If it is in fact a tea colored murkiness, it will probably go away after awhile with weekly 10% water changes.

I'm sorry to say that I have never experienced something like this, but I hope my suggestions help a little. Good-luck!
