Big fish

Question
Hi, how are you?
I got a problem, well I don't really know if it's a problem or not, but it's better to ask an expert. About a week ago I bought a golden fish which is slightly bigger that the ones I already have. The small ones are about 2 inches long and the big new one about 2.5 maybe 3 inches long including tail fin. So, the problem is that sometimes the big ones follows the small ones and I don't know if he's just playing with them or if he wants to eat them. What do you think? Should I move it to another tank? Are my other fishes in danger? That's all, thanks for your time. Bye.

Answer
Hello,

Goldfish are not ususally highly aggresive fish. Since the difference in size is so slight, it is likely he is simply schooling with them or establishing his territory- not trying to have them for lunch. Generally the rule is, if a fish can fit another into its mouth, it will eat it. This is sometimes true, sometimes not, but I am sure that the slight difference in body length did not give your goldfish a big enough mouth to swallow his buddies whole.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Stephanie
