Question
QUESTION: Hello,
I have an under gravel filter & I want to know that how to remove the debris beneath its plate? Before this I used to took whole water out with fishes and other things and then remove the debris. And if I want to siphon the debris, then how to do that?
Please also guide me about box filter and power filter and also tell me that if I want to use that then how to clean them? My tank is normal is size not very big and not very small!
I am a beginner aquarist., Help please!!!

ANSWER: Arsalan,
I have never used an under gravel filter because of this problem. They are very difficult to keep clean and very hard to keep the water clean. I use either canister filters, or the ones that sit inside the tank. I only have 2 tanks that have filters, and they are the Whisper brand. These, in my opinion, are the best filters. Some of them you only need to rinse out the media and put it back in, and others, you remove the media and replace it with new every month. It really depends on what kind of filters you like. The Whisper brand is very quiet, which is important to me. If I were you, I would remove the under gravel filter and replace it with one that hangs on the side of the tank. How long have you had the tank, what size it is, and do you have fish in it now? If you do, what kind of fish do you have?

QUESTION: First of all thanks for your suggestion. My tank dimensions are: length 1.5 feet, Depth 1.5 feet & breadth 5 inches. I have a betta, and some unknown (I don't know their name). I am sending you their picture, tell me their name. I am also interesting in keeping guppies. Tell me the sizes of all above betta,  guppies and the unknown one. I guess you are feeling quite weird that I am asking about their sizes because I don't big fishes they are very difficult to handle, look horrible :P Any way I don't like fishes more than 2.5 to 3 inches...

Answer
It looks like that is a Cichlid. As far as the fish go, just put in the address bar the type of fish you want and it will tell you the size tank that you need. If you want a male Betta, you cannot have a male guppy or any other labyrinth fish. With the size tank you have, the only fish you can have in it is a Betta. If you want any more fish, I suggest you get a larger tank.
