bottom feeders...too many???

Question
i've got the aga 46gal. bowfront tank - marineland penguin 330 filter - ph is steady at 6.2 - ammonia is close to zero - sand substrate.

the tank is stocked w/ 2 discus, 1 bandit cory, 1 green cory, 2 clown loaches, 4 khuli loaches, and 1 pleco(approx. 3.5 inches). it's moderately planted and has both bog wood and rock for cover/hiding.  i'm wondering if i have too many fish on the bottom of the tank...?  i monitor the tank closely during feeding time and while the activity level (especially w/ the khulis) increases everyone seems to get something to eat.

i'm also planning on adding more discus, i was thinking 4 more (a total of 6 w/ in the next 3 months)...even with 4 more discus i'll still be  w/ in the guidelines of 1 inch per gallon

so that's my story...what do you think...can those fish share the floor of my tank and live in peace?

Answer
Hi Dave,

The one inch per gallon rule is based on projection of full growth.  You also have to make allowances for the actual amount of water.  Given your substrate and etc. you have about a 35 gallon tank.  I would not add any more discus. Discus grow huge and are really best kept alone. You don't have too many bottom feeders, although I am hopeful that you feed them with sinking wafers and/or sinking frozen shrimp and etc. They are all peaceful critters and will compete only for food.  Good luck to you.  Sounds like a really nice tank.
