Beta Life expectancy

Question
I was wondering what the life expectancy of a beta fish is?  I once heard only 6 months, but my fish has been alive for 3 years.  He's starting to swim kind of sideways and flapping his fins super fast like he's having a seizure.

Answer
Hi Alexis;

Bettas live an average of 2 to 3 years. They are usually about a year old when we buy them at the fish stores, so add that to however long you've had him. He's an old little fella either way. Keep him as warm as possible to keep him comfy for as long as you can. That's about the best you can do at his age. You've done a great job caring for him that he has been with you so long.
