Question
hello, my brother in law has a black moor fish. i love them and i also had some that died to velvet.  =(  my question is that his black moor has a white thing coming out of his head. im thinking maybe a worm? im not sure...thank you for your time.

Answer
Hi Kitty-

Fish can get worms - there are many different kinds and they can attach to different parts of the body. These sound like anchor worms (I have a female betta who had a worm like what you are describing.) I just netted her and pulled the worm off with my nails, but your black moor may not be calm enough for this. You can add some aquarium salt to the tank to upset the salinity (and perhaps kill off the worm) or add a medicine like QuickCure (ala WalMart) to kill it outright. Personally, I prefer the "reach-in-and-yank-it-off" method, but it's understandable if your little moor doesn't. :)

Hope this is helpful!
